I am assuming OP can commute to UIC as they attended a course/program at Harper CC, so that would be affordable and OP will get in. Hopefully OP will confirm whether they can commute to UIC. I think Central Michigan is a good idea, but OP will need some merit there to get below $25K.

Yeah CMU is that away from home experience - and like SIU Carbondale, charges no OOS tuition.

$28,322 is the direct costs. Here is the auto merit.

Thanks for sharing the auto merit, so that would make it affordable for OP. I agree the four year experience is generally preferable to students. OTOH, UIC>CMU especially for STEM. IMO of course. No shade to CMU at all.
