A Princeton lacrosse player and a lacrosse player from the U of Va are being charged for assault in the severe beating of another Princeton student on campus. The student was left with a broken eye socket, amongst other injuries. The Princeton lacrosse player has previously been suspended for beating the same student, and also previously was charged with sexual assault on campus, although the charges were dropped later due to victim non-cooperation.

What are disciplinary procedures like at Princeton? Is this the anti-Duke approach?

mini, I reacted the same way^^^
Is voting turnout and athletic attendance correlated in any way? Or is it just a paper on two random and unrelated topics? Although his bio indicates he is a 4.0 student so maybe he’s figured something out.

Actually, I had to have an eye orbit MRI once a few years ago, and in the process, the doctor told me I had an OLD socket fracture. Have absolutely NO IDEA how/when that might have happened. He kept looking at me funny, asked if I had ever been an abuse victim, I think he thought I was covering up something. I don’t know how I might have gotten this!! (Maybe in the womb/upon delivery???)

I suppose Mr. Princeton lacrosse player will argue that he was merely trying to pull his friend off the victim. What is the genesis with the beef they have with this beaten student? Sounds like it wasn’t their first brush with each other.

Sounds personal and nasty. It isn’t in the zeitgeist right now to jump to conclusions about what jerks some lacrosse players are, but [insert unspoken thought about what jerks some lacrosse players are].

On the other hand, maybe the victim deserved it, like, for being a wimp, or a commie, or for stealing his girl. (That’s the vibe I get from the news story – girl stealing, the classic causis belli.)

Previous suspension for beating a fellow student? Sexual assault charges? Sounds like a real gentleman.

Surely his personality didn’t change when he crossed the NJ border. He must have had a clean HS record and glowing recommendations to have been admitted to Princeton. I’m baffled.

That kid’s accomplishments are breathtaking. And humbling . . . in a CC world where every kid is “brilliant”, a little reminder of what brilliance looks like.

And, according to D, this economics kid is also completely regular - which in her case means pleasant and well-socialized. I imagine he probably hasn’t socked anyone either…

If he had socked someone, he would probably have knocked the someone into Pennsylvania. He clearly comes from the Planet Krypton (or at least the Planet John Stuart Mills).

From the article, it seems that Princeton has enough info to proceed with its own internal disciplinary review, separate from what the court may decide. Last year, the captain of Harvard’s football team was suspended, I believe, for assaulting his (ex?) girlfriend.

Maybe Mr Hermandorfer did nothing. His lawyer is quoted,

He is a 6’4" 235 lb lacrosse player. So he is 22 yrs old. We therefore assume he is either stupid or was held back by his parents in elementary school for athletic reasons and is a big brutal lughead who goes around beating people in the eyesocket, probably with his lacrosse stick. Hey, maybe he is, and maybe he did, but haven’t we learned anything from previous experience?
