Can you just ignore the recommendation from the Assement test and take whatever class you want?

You need to ask your advisor. Some colleges are more strict than others about this. Is this a recommendation, or are you required to do a particular level course based on your test score? You also can ask to be re-tested - especially if you were unfamiliar with the format of the test and think that that is the reason why you did poorly.

It depends whether it’s only a “recommendation” or if it’s actually a prerequisite.
Some college wouldn’t allow you to register to classes you weren’t assessed to, unless you go about petitioning or challenging the requirement.
