Do all professors require e-mailing assignments (papers) or do they require a hard copy, or a combination of e-mail and hard copy?

It really depends on the professor. I’ve had a class where the professor really strived for a “paperless” experience and all assignments were submitted electronically through the class BlackBoard page. He would email us back graded papers and mark them up using the commenting feature in Microsoft Word!

Other professors seem to own stock in paper companies or something, because they will photocopy everything that could possibly be of interest and insist on hard copies of all assignments. The freshman Writing 140 classes are especially paper-intensive because I believe you must submit two copies of every essay, along with printouts of all the materials and references you used.

There have been other discussions on this board as to whether a personal printer is really necessary. The library is open 24/7 and has pay-as-you-go printing, while some of the specialty labs within some departments have free printing you can take advantage of during the day.
