Assist.org vs IGETC

Right now I’m attending Mira Costa Community College, and am looking to transfer to a CSU.
Up until last semester I was undecided and only followed Plan B, taking general courses for transfer.
However now I’ve settled on Physics and when I went to counseling it showed on Assist.org that I needed all of these math and chemistry courses for transfer, about 7 semesters worth !

Do I need these for transfer??
Should I just stick to Plan B?

I chose Chem 108 this because it’s a prereq for Chem 110, which is on the assist list
Same reason for 126, it’s a prereq for 131 which is a prereq for Physics I

Am I wasting time by focusing on Plan B or Assist? Should I even take classes from Assist?? or will I take them once I transfer???

Given your interest in physics, the courses you have seen on Assist.org (I cannot see them so it would help if you listed them) are probably caculus through differential equations and at least 3 university physics courses. It all boils down to how much time you want to spend at the CSU. You have to take about 4 semesters of math and 3 semesters of physics in your first two years of college before you can take the more advanced physics courses. If you don’t take them at the CC, you will just have to spend more time at the CSU because you can’t avoid the sequences of prerequisite courses in physics (same with engineering).

I think you would do better to take all the courses in the CC so you can start with the upper division physice courses at the CSU.

You will need to complete the lower division math and physics courses before transfer if you want to graduate in two years after transfer.

Presumably, you are looking at an ASSIST report like these:

A typical course plan, in addition to general education or IGETC courses, including English composition, would be:

Semester 1: MATH 150, CHEM 110
Semester 2: MATH 155, PHYS 151, CHEM 111
Semester 3: MATH 260, PHYS 152
Semester 4: MATH 265, MATH 270, PHYS 253
