I just received word that I have been placed on the waiting list for an assistantship at SUNY, Albany. I’ll be attending the PH.D. program there. I guess I didn’t get one because they knew I was coming anyway and have spent the past year to working to help pay for the degree.

The letter said the department awards were “tight” this year, but their experience is that they might be able to offer me one in the next few weeks.

I’ve already completed my FASFA (Expected contribution of $0). I was wondering if anyone else has been put on a waiting list for aid before. Also, does anyone on a waiting list ever receive an assistantship? I’m rather ignorant in this area.

Thanks!
