Is an associates in mechanical engineering technology worth ANYTHING?

How about in relation to a bachelors in MET?

On that note, is a 4 year MET degree worth anything? lol

I know all you guys are REAL engineers/students.

Well, I mean, it depends upon what you want to do. In the offices I’ve worked at, there’ve been people with associates’ degrees doing a lot of the drafting and CAD work, at least in structural and civil engineering, but if you don’t have a bachelors degree from an accredited program, you typically don’t do design work. You won’t be a full-fledged engineer, but you’ll likely be able to get work as a testing technician, or as a draftsman, or something like that…

This is just from what I’ve seen in my own field… I’m sure some people in mechanical engineering who have experience in industry can give you a better idea of the opportunities afforded to associates’ degree holders…

to anyone:
How much of a disadvantage is it to have a BA in MET vs ME?

Is there any point in even getting a BA in MET? I don’t see how a MET student would get a job if there is a real engineering student competing.

Well, why would anybody be an assistant manager at The Gap when they could be an astrophysicist? …because the astrophysicist is overqualified and would probably be incredibly bored as an assistant manager at The Gap, while there are some people who just don’t want to put in the many years of advanced calculus it requires to be an astrophysicist.

There are jobs for both groups.

See the discussion on civil engineering technology, too:

A lot of the same things apply.

ok, thanks
