Does anyone know of an association for college applicants, college students and families with students in college? I have thought for some time that a highly effective association for these groups is desperately needed. I have been unable to find one and was wondering if one exists? If not, is anyone interested in starting one?
Every other group in higher education (Trustees, College Presidents, Professors, Financial Aid, College Admissions Rep, Independent Colleges, Private Colleges, Public Colleges and on and on) has one. There is even an association for College Stores! These powerful groups advocate for their best interests which do not always align with the student’s best interests.
I see the a need for the college applicant/student perspective to be heard and understood on many issues. Sample issues include the cost of college, monitoring college admission policies for fairness and transparency (ex. the current discussion regarding fair waitlist policies), standardization of financial aid offers and informing college students of their rights in every nature of dispute with their college and more.
