Assuming someone had these stats...

Hi everyone, assuming someone had these stats, what would be their chances at Top Elite Schools (Ivy league included)? Which ones would be a good fit? Reach? High reach?

Highly selective 60 student program in Canada within a normal school.

Average (We don’t have GPA): 92-94% -> Remember that the Canadian and American system are totally different.

Class rank: Top 10% - 20%

Took the most rigorous curriculum available, including Enriched courses (above the normal level) AP Calc, AP English.

SAT: 2200

No legacy

Financial Aid for sure

Income: < %60,000 - Single, unemployed mother

Extracurriculars:

  • 4 years - Amnesty International Club - Became president in Sophomore year

3 Years - Stock Market Club Founder/President

4 years - A small club that fundraises, volunteers and helps the local underprivilaged community - Became president in Sophomore year

4 years - A club that takes care of (plans, carries out) major events in the school - Became president in Sophomore year - Membership is hard, and is through a selection process by the guidance councillor in charge of the club.

Student Council:

Clubs Manager for Student council

School President in Junior/Senior Year

Volunteer Work:

  • >1000 hours
4 Years - Volunteer in Hospital - Took leadership position
4 Years - School library volunteer - I started this believe it or not in first year simply to get to know and interact with people at school, but I got hooked.
    4 years - Volunteer at a temple
4 years - Volunteer in a local elderly citizen’s home, doing duties she cannot do herself
4 years - Volunteer Accountant/Office Worker at the head Food Bank in the province (Not everyone gets to do this. This is behind closed doors. The usual duties of a volunteer are food sorting)
4 Years - Volunteer with students with learning disabilities

Freshman Year - Project Manager for a Leadership Tracking Sysem that allows students to track their school/community involvement. School has wanted it for the longest time, but no one took the initiative. Helps the school greatly, and is used by all students in the school.

Worked behind the doors of student council, because the entire system of corrupt and nothing was getting done. Turned student council around when elected and got it back on track (something that has not happened in awhile). Was corrupt for the longest time.

I would kind of like to know if I am branching myself out too much, kind of becoming a jack of all trades. I just want to say that most of not all of those activities began in Freshman year, and are definately things that I have passion and devotion for, and taken leadership roles in. I devote a lot of time in each, and saying “master of none” definitely doesn’t fit here. But I’m not sure if universities will realize this.

Should I cut down on some of those activities? It will be hard to do, but I guess I can make room if possible. How am I academically?

Could you guys please show me how my stats compare in terms of applying to HYPS? I will not apply to all, if any, but I would just like to know how they compare.

Could someone please evaluate my portfolio and tell me how I am doing? Strong spots? Weak spots? What to change? What to express? Anything I should be aware of? ANYTHING!

Chances at:

University of Toronto
McGill University
Harvard University
Yale University
Princeton University
Brown University (PLME)
Stanford University
Duke University

You’re in at Toronto, McGill and any other school in Canada, since all they look at is your grades - nothing else. (yes I know there a few that ask for other information but this has basically zero impact on the admission decision. Not that it matters for you since your average is over 90%) As for the American schools I don’t really know.

University of Toronto-in
McGill University-in
Harvard University-very slim chance
Yale University-very slim chance
Princeton University-very slim chance
Brown University (PLME)- slim chance
Stanford University–very slim chance
Duke University-OK chance

datadriven, could you please explain?

It looks like I want to get into HYP more than ever, especially with the more research I do.

It’s the class rank that will make ivies difficult.

Actually, here’s the thing about class rank. We won’t rank. Our program is very rigorous. Within the program, I’d say that the rank would be top 2%. In the school, because everyone else takes cheap and easy courses, they will have higher averages.

Those are all just estimates though. We don’t rank, and I doubt they will send anything in.

Would anyone like to give me their opinions about my selected schools?

Should I cut down some extracurriculars? If so, which ones? Which ones should I devote more time to? I am thinking of going into medicine.

Any tips? Spit em out.

bumpity bump bump
