Hi I am on pending assylum status and I moved to texas last year and did my highschool senior year and Graduated but the community college says im not eligible to get admission in credit classes why is it so and if you know any other colleges that accept pending assyless please reply asap
I don’t know anything that will help you for this year. Sorry
When it comes time to transfer, and if you have done well, look into applying to Smith College. They recently had a large donation to financial aid in support of refugees and students with asylum status (as well as undocumented students. )
Best wishes as you try to get this cleared up.
The only people who can really answer your question are the admissions and academic advisors at that CC. You need to find out if the difficulty is with the pending asylum status, or if is it that you did not pass the placement exams at the CC. Lots of students don’t do well on the placement exams and have to take non-credit classes before enrolling in credit classes.
At the CC where I teach, you would need to apply as an international student because you don’t have asylum yet. You also would need to take the ESL placement test if you have not been in schools taught in English for at least 10 years. But even if you were placed into the non-credit ESL classes you would still be able to take some credit classes (such as physical education and some of the art and music classes) that don’t have any requirements for English and Math placement scores.
