I enjoyed Squyres/Sloan last term in Astro 102, and I figured I’d take Herter’s 101 (good things get said about him). Here’s the problem: Herter seems to use iClickers, which ordinarily wouldn’t be an issue, except that my extracurricular activities routinely require me to be out of Ithaca starting late morning on Fridays (this is true of perhaps half the fridays in a given term), which might get problematic.

So, anyone who’s taken 101, how heavily do clickers feature into the grade? Is there a bar beyond which you get the attendance points? (I know some classes use 2/3rd attendance)

Is this with herter and lloyd? I took astro 101 last semester and it was possibly the easiest course I’ve ever taken (inculding high school!).
Anyway to answer your question, iclickers are used every lecture. There is a question at the beginning that you must answer and then there are usually 4-5 questions throughout lecture. If I remember correctly, they are scored with 80% attendance (just answering them all) and 20% correctness. It’s pretty necessary to either be there and use the iclicker yourself or give it to someone else (and hopefully not get caught). I do not remember exactly how much of the total grade was attendance; however, I think it was around 5 or 10%. I am not very confident with that answer though
