ASU Barrett vs. UC Davis

Trying to finalize my decision. Finance major at ASU in the honors program or Managerial Econ major at UCD. Costs are within $1k of each other with scholarships.

ASU
-2 arranged research opportunities relative to my major, one directly under a nobel prize winner
-Early graduation

UCD
-Much more well-known and respected (rankings)
-In the state where I want to work after college

End goal is business school.

It seems ASU would be better because you have research opportunities there, it’s a great booster for your career if you go later to graduate school. ASU Barrett has also one of the best honor programs.

You mentioned that you want to work in CA after college- UCD has much better name recognition and is held in higher standing than ASU in CA. However, the opportunities at ASU seem great and the UC system is overpacked and underfunded right now. ASU looks like the top choice to me.

Congrats on both college offers!

One thing I suggest you do is look at the curriculum you would take to be an finance major at ASU and a managerial economics major at UCD (can be found online) and consider if one course of study is more appealing to you than the other. But all things being equal, given the research opportunity you will have at ASU, I’d probably go there.
