I think it’s “ROSE”, but Word tells me it’s “RAISE”. What’s the correct form?

The actual sentence is:

At the end of the presentation, the little girl ROSE/RAISED her hand.

I think it’s “ROSE”, but Word tells me it’s “RAISE”. What’s the correct form?

The actual sentence is:

At the end of the presentation, the little girl ROSE/RAISED her hand.

The word rose is an inflected form of rise, not raise. You would say that you raise your hand because raise is the transitive verb (rise is intransitive), so raised should be correct in this case.

I think. Don’t kill me if I’m wrong. =)

The correct form is “raised”. Rose is the past tense of rise and I don’t think the girl can rise her hand, she can only raise her hand! I hope it helps.

ooooh! Understood – didn’t know that before!
