Heh, Reader Rabbit taught me how to read when I was about 3. But I talked really late, so I guess it balances out.

dally, when did you start talking?

2 1/2. Now celebrating 20 years of books :)

I honestly don’t remember. I just recall being in kindergarten, being handed our “reading” booklets and knowing to read, that’s all. I maybe remember reading short picture books (remember Arthur?) to my parents, but I certainly don’t ever remember being taught.

Wretched skill.

4 and a half, I think.

i read tom clancy in fifth grade.

Between 2-3, so I guess 2 1/2.

I was 4 when my aunt taught me how to read. I believe my first book was “Barney’s Animal Friends”. It was a good book from what I recall.

Around age 25 or so

Ya’ll don’t know what it’s like in Kansas

“I believe my first book was “Barney’s Animal Friends”. It was a good book from what I recall.”

ha ha. lol, It must have been good for you to remember it all these years.

“Her first full book was The Foot Book by Dr. Suess.”

haha, that was my first book also.

started reading Scientific American at around 3 years of age, although I was at last 5 years of age before I really could understand most of the articles

^ wow . a true cc’er…

I cant remember exactly when I started, but my favorite book was the Swan lake (or the swan princess?.. there’s a musical or dance or whatever about it) or something and I couldnt read so I got my parents to read it to me over and over again… even up to 6 times a night…
I memorised it at the end (verbal), and I learned to read the text from there on.
I THINK i was like 4 or 5.
I despised books when I was young. But I grew to like it with Babysitters Club books (i have up to book #80 in my bookshelf) when I was 9.
I started to read the newspaper once a week when I was 11.
I read my first magazine (not cosmo or anything like that) when I was 14.

I dont think I’ve ever been a true reader (except for the Babysitterclub days). The last novel I read (for enjoyment) was that book with Holden Caulfied - cant remember the title. And it was …ok… I read that like 11 months ago. But I read articles on the internet ALL the time (from reputable sites like CNN lol)

3 and a half for Chinese, 6 for English.

Moved to North America at 5

Three-ish, i believe. First book: “George and Martha, Rise and Shine.” It was a book I had borrowed from the school library and had forgotten to return. I remember telling this to my mom and she made me read it because she told me somebody from the school was going to “get me” if I didn’t since I had pretty much stolen the book.

What a wonderful incentive to start reading, now that I look back on it. :)

i started reading around age 6, and im 17 now. i cant believe how nowadays kids are learning to read when theyre like 3 its crazy…

I never learned how to read :D

I started around 2. My mom said I started reading very quickly. She read tons of books to me, that probably helped. Children’s books of course!

3ish. I remember reading a book about an ant that lived in a hat.
And it was quickly discovered that I had a natural aptitude for reading when I could read middle grade books by the time I was in pre-school (4). I love books :-)

i was a product of hte singapore kindergarten system, so i learned to read between 3 and 4.
