Athlete denied signing: a cautionary tale

A high school senior in Idaho is suing University of Hawaii claiming that he was promised a football scholarship. When the head coach left the university after the end of the fall season, some recruited athletes were notified that they would not be offered a chance to sign in February after all.

I’ll keep you posted on the outcome of this suit.

Very interesting, considering that athletes choose schools in many instances because of the coach, but they are offered scholarships to the UNIVERSITY. When coaches leaves, students who have signed letters-of-intent are bound to honor them. Some schools may release athletes who have signed but not yet attended as a courtesy, but most do not.
