Athlete experiences in admissions/financial aid packaging at NYU (CAS)

I’ve tried to find and read CC articles on admissions and financial aid for athletes, but have not been able to get a sense of that at NYU - which, at the moment (with a long way to go), is probably my daughter’s first choice of schools. From what I have gathered, NYU seems so variable (college-specific admissions, financial aid, emphasis on sports, etc.), that I’m hoping someone can shed a little light on athlete-specific experiences there. If she does apply to NYU, it would be to CAS.

She/we visited NYU as a sophomore last spring and was told by the coach that, if mutual interest remains at the end of her junior year in HS, the athletic program will submit a package of academic, athletic, and financial materials to admissions for a “pre-read”. In context, athletically, we are certain, based on local club and university coaches in the Pacific NW, that she can compete in her sport at the D-III level and, though not a national-level recruit, lesser D-Is or D-II if she wanted. That doesn’t guarantee that NYU will want her, depending on their specific positional needs, but it does bode well.

Question(s) #1: What can one expect back from an athlete’s pre-read at NYU? Is it just admissions, or will it include a financial aid estimate/offer? How likely are they to be accurate in terms of admissions or financial aid?

Question(s) #2: At the end of her junior year, my guess is that her GPA will be 3.5+, 3 AP classes with scores of 3 or 4, SAT of 600+ in Reading/Writing, 500+ in Math, year-round commitment to her sport (including numerous college showcases), 100+ hours of volunteer work (mostly from this summer), with some other activities and experiences sprinkled in, and a likely interest in history or social science. I’m guessing these are borderline credentials and would make NYU a reach for her academically alone. But I’m wondering how much, if any, the thresholds for recruited athletes might differ?

Question(s) #3: I know that D-III schools cannot offer athletic scholarships, but many seem to be able to come up with preferential packaging (more cash, less loans) for students (including athletes) they would like to come to their school. From what I’ve read, for better or worse, NYU exercises more flexibility on financial aid awards than many other schools. I also am aware that NYU has never really put athletics on a pedestal. What can athletes expect from NYU in terms of financial and preferential packaging, if anything? Does NYU ever offer more aid than need beyond EFC?

Any thoughts or insights will be much appreciated. Thanks!
