Athletic scholarship

My son was awarded a full athletic scholarship to a D-1 school. He was red shirted the first year and still has a year left of eligibility . He will be graduating this spring 2018. I want to know if the school can decide to not pay for this final year of schooling in that he will be graduating and not returning there to pursue his 5th year. He will be attending graduate school elsewhere and looking forward to playing his last year of eligibility. Your response is appreciated. Thanks

Yes, if he doesn’t play, the school doesn’t pay. A school would NEVER (and cannot) pay for him to go to a different school. Do you think Alabama is going to pay for him to go to Georgia?

The new school can offer him a scholarship but is under no obligation to do so.

Why would a school ever pay for a kid to attend another school and play for them? No chance!

^^It’s not possible either. Can you imagine the bartering that could go on if a player from School A’s baseball team was ‘on loan’ to another school for a basketball player if the basketball coach didn’t have any scholarships left?

It normally works the other way, that the coach at the original school will not release the student with eligibility to play for another school, especially in the same conference. I believe graduation is an automatic release.
