How die hard are Stanford students about athletics? This is a “will I fit in” issue.

I’d enjoy playing any sport, but I hate watching them. I live in Green Bay, Wisconsin where everyone is constantly talking about the Packers, Brewers, and what have you.

Is it like this at Stanford? Would I feel left out because I don’t really care about competitive sports? Are there a lot of non-sport niches in which to reside?

The short answer is “no”. There is a “spirit” of support for Stanford teams, and people get excited when they are doing well, but many don’t watch any games.

Going to the football and basketball games is a fun activity with folks from your dorm, but otherwise we didn’t follow the sports that much. There are plenty of opportunities to play intramural sports or just play around (e.g. mud football, volleyball – mud and normal, table tennis).
