ATM vs ATM/Debit Card

Hi!
I’ve been reading some forums that talk about ATM cards and ATM/Debit Cards. I am just wondering about people’s experiences with these and why it should matter. The card we have been approved for is the Charles Schwab account that will be a combo ATM/Debit card and will rebate all ATM fees. Can someone please explain if/why there is any importance/distinction between the two.

We do plan to use the card for our foreign travel, as well as a credit card, where it is accepted. We will also not be charged a foreign transaction fee by CS.

Thanks!

an atm/debit card, works more at retailers like a credit card.
but if you have a credit card as well, not sure of the advantages.
For instance, my daughter as under 18, only had an ATM card, so she was limited in where she could use it, but with the MasterCard or Visa logo, * you can use it anywhere*
;)

You may not be charged a transaction fee but don’t forget about the currency conversion fee that can be as high as 5% each time you use the credit card. Call CharlesS to ask what % you will be charged/or at all.

Schwab says you WON’T be charged the currency conversion fee on credit cards. I think cards I have all have a MC/Visa logo on them, so maybe my banks no longer issue jsut ATM cards?

HImom-Make sure your PIN is 4 digits-in Asia and Europe 4 digit PINs are used at ATMs

Thanks, my PIN & hubby’s are both 4 digits–numbers only.

Am still trying to figure out why folks are so adamant about using ATM cards and not ATM/Debit cards. Have not yet seen any particular advantage but am trying to figure out what I’m missing about the distinction. Thanks!
