Attack in Japanese center for persons with disabilities leaves (at least) 15 dead

I hesitate to post this as the last thing I want is certain posters to go “aha! See, you don’t need guns to kill people.” or something along those lines. So please, do not turn this into a gun debate. There are literally dozens of other threads where that is already playing out.

Oh, my goodness! These days, it does seem our world has gotten utterly too violent. :-&

This is murder, mayhem and maniacs month. There’s something every damn day.

Update: the suspect turned himself into police.

For a person to attack people who are innately vulnerable and cannot even attempt to defend themselves seems especially horrible to me.

So sad. I’m so sorry to hear this.

It was a home for the disabled - they could have hurt many with something as inocuous as a fly swatter - not trying to downplay the horror but attacking defenseless individuals with anything other than a gun does not at all take away the legitimacy of the stronger gun regulation contingent.

I absolutely agree with you, @threeofthree especially as someone who is often too weak to fight off anything. I have just seen similar threads turn into “I told you so” threads and I’m just hoping this one will avoid that.

Interesting what information access does to perspective.

Not downplaying any deaths, but the world has always been a violent place with such attacks. However, except for the rise in terrorism inside Western nations, the internet finally has made access to the standard terrible news of the world available and things seem compounded. And it seems even worse because people now post everything, as everyone has a video on their cellphone.

Reminds me a little when my company was asked to investigate and solve a “new, huge and growing” problem in another company (a huge multi-national) - we are hired as consultants of last resort because no one could solve what was going on.

Well, it did not take long to deduce that there was no new, bigger problem - it turned out that the the “issue” was going on for a long time and was even worse before, but no one noticed because there was no communication system for it to travel throughout the company at moment’s notice, i,e, the frequency was not apparent. Once the new communicate system was in place, then, walla, a new problem which was always there was discovered.

He said he wanted to get rid of disabled people. It that is the case he should have gotten rid of himself because he is mentally disabled to do something like this.
Very disheartened to hear this happened.

Sadly we post on the front of my work website why flags are at being flown at half-staff. Yesterday the delivery man commented we need to change the home page to post why the flag is at full-staff (i.e. no one died from a horrible attack today). It has been at half-staff from one event to another for some time.

" It that is the case he should have gotten rid of himself because he is mentally disabled to do something like this."

I am sure you did not mean to be hurtful…but 99.99% of those with mental illness do no harm to others. so when you say that i am sure what you meant and what you said is different. but that was really something that should be avoided.

mental illness is the last frontier in which people belittle, degrade and say hurtful things about those suffer from this type of illness.it should be avoided.

A residential care center for the disabled. I’m not sure how you get much worse than that. There are truly evil people in this world.

@zobroward I know what you are saying as I have experienced both in my family.
I would not want any family member to be hurt by a stranger for something that is no fault of their own.
My intention didn’t match my words but at this time I really am at a loss for words. Anything can happen anywhere.
There is no place that can be considered safe anymore. There are people out there without a conscious and no matter how hard we try to take precautionary safety measures we run the risk of being caught in a dangerous situation. The fact that violence is becoming daily news these days has my head spinning. Nothing should surprise me anymore but each time something happens my heart sinks.

^^^^I think you mean without a “conscience.” And is this guy a sociopath, or is something else wrong with him?

No worse than a classroom of 1st graders. About the same in my book. Beyond sad.
