Attendance Policy and Holidays

Most BFA programs have stringent attendance policies, UArts included. Any current students out there who know how UArts handles major religious holidays that fall during times that classes are normally scheduled? For example, Rosh Hashanah is on Thursday Sept 13. The SOTA calendar lists it but there is no indication of whether an absence on that day would count towards the absentee limits for classes.

It completely depends on the teacher. Most teachers–even some of the strictest ones–are lenient. I think legally they have to, based on what’s in the handbook.

I think I had a teacher freshman year who chose not to be lenient, but she no longer teaches at the University, so I think your daughter will be fine.

Knowing most of your daughter’s teachers, I think she’ll be just fine, as long as she tells them and reminds them about it.

Hope this helps!
