Attention from school help FA negotiation?

Hello all, I’ve recently been contacted several times by a school that I was admitted to this year. I have a friend who was also admitted, and received a similarly poor FA package, who has not been contacted at all by the school. This was one of my top choice schools and I had signed up for housing and for the admitted student’s day as soon as I was accepted, but I decided to cancel due to the FA package making it very difficult to attend.

Since then I have been emailed by a student who attends the school who I had one class with, and never spoke to. He seemed to want to convince me to attend and was most likely given my email from the admissions office as we are not even facebook friends (although he did just send me a friend request). Today, I was called on my cellphone from another student who attends there who I have never met but was apart of the major I was interested in. He asked me if I had any questions etc. but I basically told him I really couldn’t attend due to a poor FA package. I have also been emailed by another student (who I haven’t met before) basically asking me if I had any more questions etc.

My dad and I had called the FA office when we received our package and they basically told us that it would not change. They had calculated our EFC to be over $30,000 of what another similar private school had calculated. We basically told them right then and there that the school would be impossible for me to attend.

Is there a reason why a school would push for me to attend despite giving me an extremely poor FA package and me telling them straight up that it was too expensive compared to other offers? The school would definitely be an option if my FA was renegotiated but I wouldn’t be heartbroken if nothing could come from all of this as I thankfully have other options.

Often the Admissions and FA are two separate offices and don’t necessarily communicate. So even though you told the FA office that you can’t attend, Admissions is still going through it’s routine of trying to recruit admitted students.
