AU National Merit Finalist

Where do these students live? They said they would have on campus housing, but would not say where. Does anyone know?

More than likely the students would be placed in a Honor’s dorm. If you get your deposit in early enough, it would be the Village. (assuming you want to pay the extra to live there) I believe the other Honor’s dorm would be in the Quad. I am not 100% sure though, so a call or e-mail to AU would get you the answer.

It could also be an honors dorm in the Hill. It likely depends when you applied for housing. Also, an honors dorm would not be automatic. It has to be requested on the housing application.

There are a number of options available to you if you want to live in honors housing:

Village: Aubie Hall – this is a large hall that has almost 320 beds (but that includes the RA housing as well). It’s relatively new and is super-suite style living, meaning you have your own room, but will share a bath with one other person. These super suites also have a living area and a kitchenette, with microwave and refrigerator. Aubie is Co-ed, with 2 floors for women, 2 for men. My daughter lives here, and will continue to live here next year.

Quad: I think there are 4 halls available, including Harper, Little, Teague and Broun. Each of these halls has around 50 + beds available. These halls are more traditional in their configuration, with double rooms that share a bath with another double. They’re called suites, but they should not be confused with a super-suite. They are co-ed, by floor. One of these dorms also houses the honors study center.

The Hill: Honors housing is available in Sasnett and Boyd (the “tall” halls) They have designated floors that are reserved for honors. I’m not sure how many rooms are available for honors students on the hill, but since these two dorms are rather large, there are probably a fair number available. These rooms are set up in a similar fashion to the Quad dorms (two doubles connected by a bath). The hill has great parking, but these halls are older, and some are being renovated.

I would add that some are placed in certain halls based not only on honors designation, but according to the learning community they have signed up for (if you are utilizing this program).

I hope this helps. There are probably at least 600 beds reserved for honors, but on-campus housing is generally in sort supply. If you are coming to AU (and are guaranteed a “bed” via your scholarship) I wouldn’t hesitate to apply NOW if you want any sort of choice – it’s going to be “slim pickings” so to speak, at this point. Let us know if you have more questions!

Nice staff and parents
Thanks
