AU Scholars vs Plan II

I was just accepted into AU Scholars and Plan II and I am still very conflicted. I have been told that Plan II is a very good academic program but I am turned off by it for many reasons. I was born and raised very close to Austin and I spent most of my high school career assuming I would end up going to an Ivy league very far away from home. There are also a lot of people from my hometown who go to UT, which I don’t like as I want to meet new people.
I don’t really know anything about AU Scholars or American in general so I was wondering if anyone could give me insight into what it is like academically and socially.
also, I plan on majoring in international affairs/ political science and I want to go to a good law school so I’m not sure if that should sway my decision.

“Many people going” is a poor reason not to go.

You do know how massive UT-Austin is, right? They’ll be a drop in an ocean. You’ll run in to almost none of them if you don’t want to.

The likelihood of you seeing a high school friend more often than once every couple of weeks is not very high, and that should not stop you. UT is a very well-regarded institution—would you have been dissuaded from attending Yale if two classmates were also accepted there? You would be FAR more likely to run into those classmates at Yale than you would even triple that amount on the UT campus.

It’s not so much that I’m afraid of running into them, I’m afraid of being surrounded by people like them. I may have a very wrong perception of the overall culture, but everyone I know who attends UT is either very heavily involved in Greek life or a hardcore partier- two things that don’t really interest me.
My question was more about how Plan II an AU Scholars compare in terms of academics and their interaction with the rest of the respective schools
