Auburn vs. Tennessee

Hi! I was accepted to both Auburn and UTK. I recently toured and love them so much! I am looking to study Communications or Marketing and there’s a chance I may get into the honors college at Auburn. Does anyone have insight into pros/cons for both? I received merit scholarships to both schools. Can’t decide!

If offered admission to an honors college, then that should be a significant factor between two universities that you like equally.

Check what Honors entails. Not all love what Honors requires. Honors colleges are different. Some apply at some schools but not others.

Are both affordable ? That you got merit doesn’t mean the same price.

UTK is know for ‘sports’ communication.

It’s a city school. Auburn small town and I think a nicer campus although that’s opinion.

Two fine admits. Go visit both again - hopefully one stands out. Or flip a coin - maybe both are great.

Congrats.

Congrats on two great options. I agree with @tsbna44, look into what the Honors programs are about - it can differ substantially one school to the next.

S23 was accepted to both and we visited them a day apart. The students at both schools were super friendly and seemed quite happy.

While I also agree that Auburn had a nicer campus I would say it’s close to a toss-up and for my son the access to things that downtown Knoxville gave access to (and having the Smokies pretty close by if you’re outdoorsy at all) was going to tip the scale between the two.

Also consider travel to/from each. If you need to fly in, my sense is that Knoxville is much more accessible. If it’s a drive for you, it might be a wash.

My daughter is a senior at UTK in Haslam and has loved every minute of her time there. We are all sad she is graduating, especially my husband who has made it out for many football games and other activities. She did not apply to Auburn so I don’t have any info for you there, but I think Knoxville as a location itself has been great. She has been able to drive to other schools for games/visiting friends fairly easily all over the south and has enjoyed all the outdoor activities as well. We live in PA and love that she can take a direct flight to Philadelphia if needed and the airport is 20 minutes away from campus. She has had a great internship with Morgan Stanley for the last year, working part time during the school year and full time last summer. She has developed a good network for finding a job after graduation and is currently involved in interviews with Morgan Stanley in Nashville, and she feels a job offer is coming. Good luck to you wherever you decide to go!
