Auction sites !

Ok, I have daytime tv on. I have seen a zillion ads for sites like DealDash etc
What the heck are they? I am sure they are total scams. I love the commercial where the woman brags about having “won” 1400 deals I just four months!
Someone fille in?

It costs you a dollar (or 60 cents for DealDash) to bid a penny higher than the last bid. More gambling than actually bidding. When there is no other bid for a few minutes, that item is closed and sold.

A friend’s son bought a cell phone for a few dollars, but it took him about $100 to win it.

[What Is The World Coming To?: The real unbribed truth about DealDash and penny auctions](Businesses Behaving Badly: DealDash and Penny Auctions)

Its not a scam, its a form of entertainment. :)

artloversplus, very interesting article. Thanks. I’m going to stay away.

ETA: “If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.”

Wow, sounds like quite the scam and that the people who created the site are really raking in the dough. Good post explaining how it works. I’m steering clear.

Thank you ! I had be we heard of these before. The whole concept just screams “scam”
What a business model, it really does seem very casino like

I also wonder how much of the betting activity is placed by the “house”

Yea, if the house places the final bet, they can just keep rolling over the products and start new auctions. Ick!

I am not sure how many will be house bids, they have made enough money, if they play the house card too frequently, people will complaint. Its like those machines with ipad hanging to lure the gamblers to stick the key into the hole and get it. I was on a cruise ship, two machines must took in 1000’s because I have not seen any one had won any thing. But it brought excitement on the floor and ppl don’t mind to lose a hundred or so in that environment.

Perhaps that is why US had banned the online poker games to play real money. Just imagine if one of the player on your table is the house and the house knows your hand from the behind.
