Anyone have a problem where the ignition key does not release when turning the car off? This has happened on numerous occasions. Weeks go by and then it happens again. Called AUDI and they say pull it out slowly but do that and still occurs.

Any thoughts/problems the same and solutions appreciated.

I don’t have an Audi but this happens sometimes with my Ford Escape. I was told to rock the car back and forth (while you’re in it) while moving the steering wheel back and forth to get the key to disengage. It works in my car.

That used to happen with our Volvo and it seemed to be caused by not having the transmission truly in Park. We would shift in and out of Park numerous times while also moving the steering wheel as MomLive said. In our case, I believe this problem originated when my D spilled a milkshake the gear shift. Or was it a latte?

This is what Audi recommends:

As for myself, I agree with Puzzled … for whatever reason, the A5 doesn’t think the transmission is in Park.

After doing a little more checking, I see this “sticky key” problem is fairly common:
[Key issues - A5_OC](<a href=“Key issues | Audi A5 Forum & Audi S5 Forum”>Key issues | Audi A5 Forum & Audi S5 Forum)

And that there is a Service Bulletin that addresses this issue. (I can’t replicate the link. You can access it from the above URL.) Take the car back to the dealer and have them check it again!

We had a similar problem with a Toyota. It turned out that the key was very slightly bent. You couldn’t see that by looking, but when we got a new key made, the problem disappeared.
