I’m going to be doing a recording for my violin song. How do i do this? What equipment do i need?

If it’s just a monophonic sound, you can use a program called IntelliScore Polyphonic that I’ve used before and, while I don’t recommend it for anything more than one instrument, it’ll work pretty well if you don’t need to layer tracks over each other.
Cool Edit Pro is an awesome program that I use when recording a lot of tracks, but it’s expensive (unless you download it from a file sharing program :)) and has a pretty steep learning curve.
I’d personally just use Microsoft’s old Sound Recorder. Usually when I have a riff stuck in my head and I’m too lazy to tab it out, I just hit record on sound recorder and play, the quality is fine unless you’re trying to make something professional.

I use Cool Edit Pro for all my my editing. It’s an exceptionally powerful program, however typically is overkill for most applications. As Ecliptica said, if you’re doing single track recording, then Polyphonic by IntelliScore should get the job done nicely.
