Audition Results compared to Audition Order

There are many posts about where/when/how to schedule college auditions, but I think it would be very helpful to the HS graduating class of 2015 who will soon be facing this question to see various outcomes in one thread. I know most students won’t receive that last college letter for at least another month, but I figured I’d start this thread now for those lucky few who DO have decisions made. Not us yet, however! Please list colleges in chronological order with program auditioned for (BFA, BM, BA, MT, Acting, VP, etc.), date auditioned, place of audition, and result. It’s always difficult to write “rejected,” but I think it’s important for up and coming students to see that there are many different paths to this career, and that they only need ONE acceptance. I can’t wait to add D’s information next month!

Wright State BFA MT On campus 11/9/2013 Accepted 11/23
Baldwin Wallace BFA MT On campus 11/15/2013 Rejected 12/14
Rider - Westminster BFA MT On campus 12/14/2013 Accepted 12/20
Point Park BFA MT On campus 1/18/2013 Accepted 1/25

Looks great, and congrats to your amazingly talented S!

Thank you! He has 3 more schools to hear from so I guess we can update in red as we go?

why don’t you just keep the schools in alphabetical order? Nobody next year needs to necessarily know whose son/daughter it is nor see the latest updates as they come in (so why the red?). The real value of this is the timing between when/where one applied to a particular school and when they heard their status. A running list, no matter when it is added to should do the trick for that no?

School name - auditioned where? - when? - decision date
We can add the where, when and date under the school name
How’s that sound?

Where/When/Result/Date
Baldwin Wallace/BFA MT/On Campus 11/15 Rejected 12/14

Point Park/BFA MT/On campus 01/18 Accepted 1/25

Rider/BFA MT/On campus 12/14 Accepted 12/20

Wright State/BFA MT/On campus 11/09 Accepted 11/23

Good idea about adding the decision date. My original thought for putting each student’s auditions in order was so future auditionees could see if nerves and such adversely affect first auditions and if kids get burned out by the end (like my D), or if Unifieds or on campus auditions give more acceptances.

@AMothersLove, you won’t be able to really tell that from the data. Too many other factors can contribute to the acceptance and rejection pattern. (Luck, where in the order of things the most competitive schools lie, health and so on.)

I agree, my S for example was VERY nervous for his first, then he calmed a bit (until he dropped his dance clothes in the toilet) then very nervous for CCM, then only very nervous for the interview portion at Otterbein which was his last audition. So I’m not sure we’ll get that type of view from this. I thought we were tracking how long it took results to be received base don audition date and where.

This list by school and number of auditioners could get VERY long.

Are you interested in how news was received - email, phone call, portal update, snail mail??

@halflocum - you’re right, my numbers oriented brain was trying to make sense out of something that can’t be quantified I guess. I do think it will still be helpful to future auditinees to see a list such that @MTMajorCook started us off with. I’m thinking adding “how news was received” as suggested by @mom4bwayboy might make thinkgs a little too combursome, though. Anyone else have an opinion?

I think that a concise: email, snail mail, phone call, portal answer to the “how news received” question (as opposed to a long dissertation) might be a welcome data point to add that could make this list a nice “one stop shopping” list for next year. IF it is kept just to the data.

Bear in mind though that this list’s data is mainly useful for schools that have a mixture of how they notify. For schools like BU, NYU, U Miami etc. that send out all acceptances and rejections on the same day, it doesn’t tell you anything other than what day and how the acceptances went out because when/where you auditioned really doesn’t matter. But certainly for the Montclairs, Hartts, BWs, Riders,PP of the world that notify throughout the cycle, it would be a clean way of getting a picture on how things had shaken out the year before. Otherwise you have to mine the threads for that same data.

I think it would be really helpful to add that last column “how news received.” My vote is for adding it. One stop shopping, like @halflokum said.

Where/When/Result/Date/How

Rider/BFA MT/On campus 12/14 Accepted 12/20/Online was updated on 12/17 then received snail mail

Wright State/BFA MT/On campus 11/09 Accepted 11/23 via Snail Mail

How is this?

Where/When/Result/Date

Wright State

Does that ^^ work for everyone? @MTMajorCook can update how received.

The problem now is the thread title. It doesn’t define what you are actually providing.

Does anyone have the ability to re-name the thread? Or do we just start a new one with a better name?
