Auditions Outside of New York

A 12/15/26 posting (#27 Auditions !!! thread) states “My D is auditioning on Jan 13th in LA.”

Does Syracuse conduct off campus auditions ?

They were not listed as a school that participates offically or non-offically with the Unifieds.

I was unable to find any information regarding this on their website.

Also the ‘LA’ above…does it stand for Los Angeles or Lousiana ??

thank you

SU usually does not participate in the Unifieds, but they do have off-campus auditions, definitely in NYC and possibly some other locations. They have not announced dates yet, but the website says check back in September. You could also try calling the drama department directly.

I’m pretty sure the LA referred to Los Angeles; as far as I know they don’t audition in Louisiana.

I had a student audition last year in DC for Syracuse on Jan. 13. Perhaps that will be an option again this year. I think their audition dates get posted by mid Sept.

They did 2 days back-to-back in DC – 2 groups each day (Jan. 08).

Do you know how many students they took in their freshman Musical Theatre program this year and how many seniors graduated last year?

Thank you.

I believe there were 20 in the graduating class. Not sure how many in this year’s freshman class, but I can ask my D, who is a junior.

I understand Ms. Bagwell that you are a faculty member and administrator in the Musical theater program at University of Arizona. It might be more appropriate for you to speak with your colleagues at other esteemed MT programs for this information rather than collecting these numbers incidentally with parents and students on a forum.
I’m sure other professionals are happy to help you.

I heard that the freshman MT class is 25; the freshman acting class is 30. Those numbers were provided by older drama students during the 08 orientation at a parent info session. Not sure how precise they are but they are pretty close.

I appreciate all who helped me gather numbers. I am doing research on large universities with BFA Musical Theatre programs. I have contacted the MT departments at 20 schools and most have been very helpful about sending me their numbers. I have not heard from several schools and thought some of you might be able to help and you did. Thank you.

So for the 2008-2009 audition season, where and when did Syracuse hold auditions off campus? They don’t appear to attend unifieds anywhere. Thanks.

Syracuse doesn’t participate in Unifieds, but they do schedule auditions in NY, and also usually Chicago and LA, I believe.

We auditioned for Syracuse at Ripley Grier Studios in NYC on January 4th of this year. Unifieds in New York weren’t until the last weekend of January.

I believe Syracuse actually had so many qualified applicants for its BFA Acting and MT programs that they chose to ADD audition dates (on-campus and in NYC) this year to accommodate all of the applicants. I don’t know about off-campus auditions in cities outside of NY, however.

They also hold auditions in DC.

My daughter auditioned in LA at the LAX Hilton on January 3. There were 3 professors there: acting, voice & dance. It was her first college audition & the most delightful experience & additionally it’s where my daughter is going to attend in the fall. Having 20/20 we could have eliminated the other 12 auditions/14,000 miles of travel!
Best to you anne…

Did the DC audition include dance? Thanks.

Yes, DC audition includes dance, monologue and songs (songs for MT BFAs, not acting BFAs). In Jan 08 (for entering class of 2012), head of dance department and musical theatre professor came down from Syracuse and did the auditions. Dancers are taught a dance and then they perform it as a group in front of the professors. Songs and monologue are done individually and privately.

This sounds a bit less hectic than the unifieds.
Thanks for your response!

Syracuse doesn’t do Unifieds, classicalbk.

My D just did the Syracuse L.A. auditions. My husband went with her and they both sound a bit confused as to the application process. It sounded as if they were told they she “can’t apply” to the university until the theatre department recommends her for the program and they will only be giving that “okay” to about 60 students for both their straight acting and MT program. Only then can she “apply.” Well, she has already sent in her application, so I am thinking they misunderstood and what the theatre department said was that it would only after being recommended by the theatre department that the university would then consider her application. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks!
