Are shows like Little Shop of Horrors and Hairspray too contemporary?</p>
<p>It is my understanding that those would be fine. I think they just mean they want songs from shows that are not too obscure- as in never done in well known theaters (i.e. not unpublished stuff written by a budding composer friend, for example). Some schools do want one song from earlier musical theatre years, but they say so quite specifically.</p>
