Augustana College or North Central College?

A friend of mine (student from Europe) got admission to both, starting as a freshman this fall. Next to good academics he is also a good basketball player.

He got merit scholarships: 10,000 a year from Augustana and 9,000 for NCC.

Please can anyone advise which college is best bet?

Well I’m not sure which is better in terms of academics or anything…but I have seen both campuses! I like Augustana’s campus a lot-slightly hilly with lots of trees, ponds, beautiful old buildings, kind of secluded but very neat. However, the surrounding area of Rock Island isn’t too great. North Central, on the other hand, is very suburban, and is in the heart of Naperville, which is a great town–lots of restaurants, stores, the riverwalk, tons of activity and close to lots of other nice towns and Chicago. I dont know what your friend’s priorities are in deciding which one to attend, but they’re both nice in different ways.

Thanks. This is helpful.

As for academics, I understand that Augustana is no 95 Liberal Arts College and NCC is no 15 for National Master´s in the country. Any one can give me an idea how to compare this to each other?

My friend want to get a bachelor’s in Psychology.
Thanks!

NCC has a better location when it comes to off-campus activity, but I’d personally pick Augustana easily. I think it has greater community atmosphere and a substantially better reputation. My law school roommate went to Augustana.

You can’t compare the two ranking systems. You can compare individual statistics for each college (test score range, retention and graduation rate, etc.)
