OK, it’s time for my old Accura to have timing belt and water pump replaced. AutoMD sent me three quotes, ranging from $520 to $800. Have anyone here used AutoMD? Opinion?

We replace our own water pump & belts, that seems high unless they are situated in such a way that you need to pull the engine to do so.
I am not familiar with AutoMD.
How much are they getting an hour? I am going to tell H, he is in the wrong line of work!

I thought it’s cheap and that makes me worried (because I am not familiar with the shops they listed) LOL. I paid like $800 five years ago for our Toyota Sienna. They didn’t itemize per hour labor, but, as you know, the bulk is in labor charges. Parts are cheap. BTW, I always feel I am in the wrong place of work. I am jealous of my vendors, who are doing the same thing I am doing and they charge four times my rates!

NOMB, but I’d go a different route … get two or three recommendations for independent shops that do good work, and get quotes from them. If you’re keeping track of major service intervals … most people don’t … you can certainly figure out who can perform the service competently. JMHO of course.

BTW, a good rule of thumb is half (plus or minus) what the dealer charges.
