I am curious at the availability of scholarships (specifically in LSA) after freshman year? Dd unfortunately does not have a current merit award for her first year. Though she was a fairly strong applicant, her admission came after the priority date for scholarships after initially being deferred, which may or may not have impacted any awards. Assuming she will continue to do well, how abundant are the merit awards/scholarships for continuing students?
There are program specific scholarships for sophomore and up but most of them will require the demonstration of need. Nevertheless, there may be redistribution of declined scholarships later on. My friend’s D got a moderate one ($5000) in Summer after commitment ~7 years ago.
I wonder about that, too. LSA says they have some but it’s difficult to know how competitive they are.
Sign up for earliest New Student Orientation, if possible, so that you have the opportunities to inquire for declined scholarships by students who’ve chosen to go elsewhere.
Some LSA departments do have merit-based scholarships for sophomores and up. Inquire the specific department’s office directly, as not all of them “advertise” this on their home pages. Some scholarship applications require recommendations/nominations from the Profs.
