For fall, 2012, if you are placed in South Campus as a freshman and choose to stay in the same South Campus house for sophomore year, how would you rate the chances of getting a single room for sophomore year? Are there usually enough upperclassmen leaving the house so that a number of single rooms are vacated? Or would there be a lot of competition for single rooms? Thanks for any insights you may have.

Cogitate, my son is a First Year in South this year, and he was able to get a single in the same house within South for next year.

He said that he got a really poor number in the lottery, so he was one of the last to choose. However, there were so many upperclass students moving off campus, and so many singles in South, that it was still not a problem for him to get a single.

Thanks, rlmmail. This is for my son, who is agonizing over the housing selection form. He will be happy to hear that.

My S also go a single in South his second year. As a third year next fall, he will live off campus.

Thanks, Motherbear - good to know.

I’m almost certain that the last person in each house lottery in South this year still had the option of a single. Your son has nothing to fear about getting a single next year, if that is indeed what he wants.

Thanks, Dunbar.
