Average IQ by country.

FunkySATMonkey, IQ tests are normed for a specific population. If a test is curved around a score of 100 for the UK or US test taker pool, it won’t come out to 100 in other countries. Secondly, IQ tests assume a certain level of education and it is no surprise that adults with little formal education test as mentally ■■■■■■■■ when you compare them to Westerners with 12-16 years of formal education. An adult who cannot add two 2-digit numbers after 12 years of education might be mentally ■■■■■■■■. An adult who cannot add two 2-digit numbers because he has never been taught how to add is probably not ■■■■■■■■, but a standardized test cannot tell the difference.

IQs and IQ tests are, as Stephen Hawking said, ‘for losers’.

Since the average IQ of Beijing is 96.6, and Beijing is one of China’s most industrialized cities, how is the average IQ of China, as a whole, 100? China’s methods obviously didn’t produce an accurate score.

Someone said that IQ tests are biased toward East Asians. I suspect that what IQ tests test is biased toward East Asians.

Haha Croatia has one of the lowest in Europe. I’m not surprised at all after visiting there and seeing how their politicians act. Somebody even told me that they are the smartest people in the region, I would like to forward them this list. Unfortunately people there have a superiority complex and think they are very bright when really they are not.

That’s what low scorers say!!

All I’m going to say is flynn effect.

I am shocked to see Zimbabwe ranked so lowly,in spite of the fact that it has the highest literacy rate in Africa(90percent) and one of the best educational systems in Africa. But of course it must be noted that the same country went through the worst economic crises ever recorded in history when this survey was conducted,so its not that surprising.Obviously environmental and socioeconomic factors,as well as the nature of the test(for example administering an english skills test on people who are not native speakers)makes the result of this survey meaningless.

I know a kid with a genius IQ who is having a hard time graduating form high school. His odds of getting into any college, besides a community college, are nil. In fact, his odds of actually performing well enough to keep a job, any job, are questionable.

But still. He’s a “genius.”

Hi everyone. They forget one country where people are really intelligent. That is Vietnam.

^Why do you want your country to be included in this bizarre list?

FunkySATMonkey is right there. Hong Kong people have been familiar with English for a century and they have been in better economic and educational conditions therefore they have a leg up.

Actually, intelligence quotients have long been regarded as jokes in serious psychological circles. With a long and hallowed tradition of racism-justification, a constant criticism is the consistent cultural bias.

The average person in many African tribes and nations is considered mentally ■■■■■■■■ by IQ standards, despite being perfectly functional. In fact, cultures withe a difference as small as using circular windows instead of square ones can find themselves unable to complete large amounts of the IQ questions, due to the differing perceptions this results in. There is no logical basis for claiming that such a thing (cultural window shape preference) makes the difference between mental health and mental retardation.

Further, even if the tests were not culturally biased, the idea of being able to quantify “intelligence” reliably and accurately is scientifically indefensible if looked at through logic, reason, and scientific inquiry. Indeed, the concept of “intelligence” that the intelligence quotient test presumes is a shallow misrepresentation of the full mental faculties of a conscious and sentient human being.

This list can’t be accurate, there has to be something, like the test was given in a language they didn’t speak, or something like that. Some tests aren’t fair because they were based on something you learn, and some people weren’t given that opportunity. For example if the test included any kind of math, someone might have never been taught that. Were this list accurate, it would mean that there are 7 countries where the average person is “mildly mentally ■■■■■■■■”.
