On average, sophomores (at my school) are only allowed to take 1 AP class (for the few chosen ones, 2). Either way, they get the feel of how the AP class will be like, and it prepares them a bit for a full AP course load junior year.

depends on the school curriculum.
my school limits the number of APs you can take as a sophomore to 3, no matter how many u can take. they make you not take one if you are able to take 4. maybe its cause the money problem, idk. still most schools limit the number of APs a sophomore can take. they dont limit the tests u take, but the classes you are enrolled.
im taking 3 (AP Euro, AP Bio, AP Spanish Language;non-native), but im also planning to self study 1 or 2 more (maybe human geo and/or World)… which makes a total of 4 or 5 APs.

oh, ok. and is self-studying for ap’s hard? to like do it on your own?

^Depends. AP Human Geography and Environmental Science barely took me much time at all. Tests like AP Physics C or Calculus AB/BC would take quite a while to cover.

How about ap studio art? Have any of you taken it? Is it possible to self-study that subject?

My school only offers 1 AP sophomore year, and I took it. It was very easy. and last year (my junior year), three was no problem. I’m sure you could handle 2 or more.

You wouldn’t really “self study” studio art since there is no exam. You have to submit a portfolio. I have not taken the class, but I have a few friends who did and they had to begin working on their portfolios more than a year in advance and it’s very time consuming.

oh, ok then I guess. I can’t do that. What about Environmental science?

AP Biology is doable as a freshman, but if you didn’t take it as a freshman, do it as a sophomore. Also take AP World History and/or AP Euro. AP Psychology isn’t too bad so that is also doable.

Um average people do not take any AP classes at all in high school… They are advanced courses for advanced students. That’s the whole point. You do not NEED to take anything. I promise you will still get into college even if you don’t take 6 APs every year. The fact that you’re even at this board asking this question tells me you have nothing to worry about.

^Aww thank you steel03. JLee92, I am taking ap biology next year and I am taking Ap world histoy and I already took ap Psych, but thank you for the suggestions and suggestion of Ap euro. I think I’ll take that to hand.:)

Howd you do on AP Psych

^ I got a 5 so I ws hapy but it’s really easy.

really? thats great! how’d you study? what prep books did you use?

^I studied the week before the test espically on the day o the test. I used Barron’s and PR.

To answer the thread title’s question, there is really no number of APs a sophomore “should take”. It totally depends on your school and its course offerings.

yah, I was thinking to stick with two. My PRE-ib classes take a while of my time.

Custard, that’s great! Is that really all you did? Would u say your school course helped you?

I would say my course has NOT helped me.

aha how about your textbook? wow so can i really just get a 5 on the ap exam with simply just studying a few prep books?
