What is an average number of AP’s a sophmore should take? I think I am not taking that many Ap’s as a sophmore. I only have four which are Ap world history, Ap macro,Human geo and psychology.

I’m taking three: AP World History, AP Biology, and APES.

AP World and AP Macro are on the same day though.

you should take world and geology, they are two of the easiest and a good intro to ap’s

4 is good enough, I only took 2.

Oh sorry! I made a mistake. I’m only taking 2 Ap macro and Ap world but I took 4 including this year in my high school years. Isn’t that less to average?
yah, they are giving me a week more for ap macro as ap world and macro are on the same day.:)

AP Physics C, AP Computer Science, MultiVar/Linear Algebra

2 APs, (unless u count MVC/Lin as an ap also. Then it wuld be 3)

In my opinion sophomores should not be taking AP courses. In the interest of full disclosure my daughter took two APs sophomore year and did well on the exams. Still, I am not convinced that AP courses, if properly and rigorously taught, are appropriate for 10th graders (at least for 99% of 10th graders).

they are appropriate for any grade. any where for any students ready to take the challenge.

APUSH-5
APES-5
APHG-5

I believe all sophomores should have the opportunity to take at least one AP class.

Classes or tests?
2 is pretty good for classes, about where you should be. Also, you took 2 last year (right?), which is impressive because most schools don’t allow AP classes freshman year, and if they do they usually allow at most one.
2 is also pretty good for tests, since most people don’t self study, and self studying isn’t that important.

I want to self-study but worried about what my final outcome would be…so I haven’t started self-studying yet. My Ib classes are most of my life preety much right now so I haven’t gotten time. Plus my ap world is preety hard so yah.

Many students take none at all. It mostly depends on what your school offers. Pushing yourself looks good, but I know Harvard students who took only a couple of AP tests their entire high school career, because their schools just didn’t offer or expect many.

It really depends on your school and your level. Most schools will offer at least 1 AP class to sophomores.

I took 4 as a sophomore: French Language (non-native), Physics B, Calculus BC, European History. All 5’s. So 4 is definitely doable.

I also think it depends on your school. For my school, APs typically start in 11th grade. Very very few take APs in 10th grade, but that’s only because those type of ppl paid $1000 to take the prereq course over the summer.

If your school offers APs for every grade, I think that 4 would be a good average for froshies and sophomores, 3-4 for juniors (lots of work in junior yr), and any amount for seniors haha .

My school offers like 20 Ap’s I guess but then we have online FLVS and stuff. So average of 4 has to be,right?

4 is a lot for a sophomore. most kids i knew took 1-2, a couple took 3 or 4.
i took 5, and before that, 1 in 9th and 1 in 8th
the tests were Comp Sci, Calc BC, Physics C: Mech, Physics C: E&M, Enviro (self)
in 9th Chem (self)
in 8th Bio (self)
technically Comp Sci and both Phys were semi self because my teachers were ok
all 5s
im taking 4-5 this year and 4-5 next year for for 15-17 total
dont worry though, 4 is manageable and will give you a leg up over your peers. you can definitely do it!

^^The average AP’s for a sophomore is closer to 0 than anything.

Puggly123 beat me to posting my thoughts. To all the sophs on this thread, the average number of APs taken by sophomores is probably like 0.004 or something like that (maybe silverturtle can give me an official statistic =P). You guys are all ahead of the game by taking APs during your soph year. I don’t think 4 is too many or too few APs for a soph. You just have to be willing to work hard.

I only took one (AP World). Im taking two this year, then 3-4 next yr. Like said before, most sophs dont take AP classes, and some schools dont even allow 9th-10th graders to take any. One or two is just fine
