Average salary for a business graduate?

I’m double majoring in Information systems and international business. I’ve recieved 2 offers on the table, one is 48,000/yr with a 2000 signing bonus and decent benefits and another is 53,000/yr with a 1500 signing bonus and mediocre benefits.

I’m just wondering what a typical entry level IT auditor makes a year.
Should I try to negotiate for a better salary?
And if I do, how would I go about it? The letter they both sent me were like “we are prepared to offer you xxxxx with a sign on bonus of xxxx”.

What school are you graduating from?
where are the jobs located?
how big are the companies, and what kind of upward mobility will you be presented with?

IT auditing is a HOT field right now. I just checked out the Robert Half Finance and Accounting salary guide for 2007, and IT auditing is expected to have salary increases of 9+% for the year. The salaries are in the $48-60 range to start.

Here’s an article about executives discussing COSO (internal auditing guidelines):

Notice that the IT side of auditing is a BIG deal!

University of Maryland Business School and its the Rockville area of Maryland, and its with Clifton GUnderson, so I will have pretty good upwards mobility and its a pretty big accounting firm (13th)

first off congratulations. As I have said before I am a 40something predfessional with an energy company and have had recruiting and hiring exposure at times.

This is NOT-repeat not- my area, either geography or disipline. Having said that it seems like a reasonable salary. Look at benefits, lots of hiddne compensation can be there when you are comparing. Especially like 401k matching; if retirement is a cash contribution --how much; and also medical and dental co-pays and costs…

With all that, I would say negotiate if your feel strongly. But realize you are not in a position of strength. YOu might try something like " I am interested in this position you have offered, I am uncertain about the job market, is this you standard, set offer … I am trying to decide whether to continue interviewing or accepting your offer." Thus if they have any wiggle room they will say. REALIZE, that at a large company a starting salary is usually pretty well set.

I would say focus on the first job and group and indicate your desire to get into a positon with lots of potential, etc…

just a few thougths
