<p>Do you have any evidence that out of state freshman have higher average than in state freshmen? I seriously doubt it. My guess is that the out of state students might even have a LOWER average – more of them got in to bring in the additional tuition dollars that IU needs for a variety of initiatives.</p>

<p>Doesn’t this just say that Indiana students overall have lower average scores than all out of state students, thus more did not meet the standards required for admission this year at IU? That is, there is no particular reason to believe that out of state students at IU have higher average SAT scores than in state students at IU do. But out of state students perhaps had a better chance of being admitted since their scores were higher, on average. Perhaps that is what you were saying anyway :-)</p>
