Average SAT scores for optometrists or doctors...?

This post is directed toward students who definitely want to pursue optometry and for students who have been accepted to any optometry programs.

Anyway, I’m taking the SATs this saturday and I dont know what I should be getting (composite Verbal, Math, and Writing score). Right now, my goal is above a 1730 to assure my acceptance into Rutgers. However, I am curious about what others, who are interested in optometry, are getting.

What Math score should I be getting? Reading? Writing? Composite?

I’ve been practicing and am averaging around:
Math: 710
Verbal: 480 :frowning:
Writing: 640
Composite: 1830

I’m above Rutgers minimum but what should future optometrists be getting? I’m worried because I’m afraid my critical reading score will ultimately mar my chances at optometry because is deals with a lot of test taking and reading comprehension.

PS. and if anyone could give me some advice about how to improve my reading comprehension, much thanks will be given!!!

You could ask the optometry school if your reading score qualifies. If they don’t know you could possibly take the optometry college admissions test to see if your reading score qualifies.

There are several free optometry admission tests, OAT, on-line, offered by different organizations. Just search and try a couple.
