Aviation jobs for low time pilots

My son is looking for a pilot job but is having a really hard time.

He is Graduating in May from UND with his CFII rating and 400 total flying time. He has been applying to any pilot jobs he qualifies for with no luck. He told me that his friends are having the same problem. Where did all the demand for low time pilots go? What advice would you give him?

How do you keep your kids motivated when they cant find a job? I dont want to stress him out, but Im concerned. Anyone out there whose kid is experiencing the same issue?

What is the school saying ? These aviation schools have direct access to the regional carriers.

I asked my son if there has been any communication from the school and he said, no. I imagine they are more concerned about the students that are enrolled rather than the ones who will be graduating soon.

Also, my son is part of the United Aviate Program, however, they sill need 1000 hours before they bring you on.

My son is thinking of leasing a plane to remain proficient. I just cannot believe that after spending 100k+ on his education, he has no prospects.

I thought there was a shortage of pilots.

Leasing a plane?

I thought they get more hours by being a flight instructor.

He shouldn’t wait to hear from the school.

He needs to go to the school and say - help me.

Is there a shortage at all schools? UND is top rated.

The Real Reasons Airlines are Facing a Pilot Shortage Right Now

Yup, this is an issue that is industry wide.
Like that article said “Now that the hiring environment has slowed down, one may argue there’s no real pilot shortage anymore.”

As far as UND, they have a flight instructor hiring event coming up in April. We heard that last year they had 10 positions open and over 200 applicants. He will definatelly give it a try.

As for other school, I can only assume they are in the same boat. Facebook and reddit are full of new pilots looking for jobs for months without success.

Other options that he is looking into are being an independent flight instructor and/or fractional plane ownership, which might be cheaper for him than leasing a plane.

I will tell him to reach out to his school counselor to see if they have any tips for him. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
