To add to what Pizzagirl said, this kid was not even a guest - he was working. He was PAID to housesit. Do the kids who leave their dirty dishes on the counter by the sink for mommy to take care of do the same thing in their workplace lunchroom? 'Cause you know, the receptionist has nothing else to do…
@emilybee - People are grossed out about the thought of picking up balled up and corner-of-closet-hidden towels that the neighbor kid used for masturbation. More power to you if that doesn’t send you into a jizzy.
lol, Madison, You never fail to crack me up!
"Hopefully not, but I certainly wouldn’t get my panties all in a twist if I found some kid who was staying in my house towel on the floor.
How do you all do react when something really awful has happened if such minor things sends you into a tizzy."
IN CONTEXT. If the OP had said - a young man house-sat for me, it was uneventful but heavens, there was a wet towel on the floor, we’d tell her to get over it.
Really cobras? You are sure the parents of this kid had lower behavioral standards? Based on this one irresponsible event? I think OP has every right to be upset. Many 21yos would not take advantage of this situation. Given the beer cans in the trash, though, it seems this kid didn’t think the amount of drinking was something to hide. Mif you are family friends, I would call him over to reconnect the TV and talk to him (briefly) about why you are upset and the issues involved. Give him a chance to apologize or explain himself. It may make the next family party easier. I wouldn’t give up on housessitters, just need to find the right ones.
No, that wouldn’t send me into a tizzy.
Sorry, this post is not at all credible given that you are the one who made this statement:
I’m not buying that your behavioral standards are superior to the young man in question.
loot 70+ bottles of beer? Where did you get that quote, nrdsb4? I don’t think the OP told us the sitter looted 70 beers. Whomever said that just isn’t reading well.
And let’s remember, cobrat said all 21 yr olds near him/her are fully responsible. That gives cobrat a limited perspective of all 21 yr olds, based on the exceptionally good ones in cobrat’s circle.
good point, pizzagirl, in context post 203.
If a 21 yr old sitter “eats the frig empty” after he has been invited to help himself, why fault the sitter for helping himself? He ate the food he was invited to eat, and somehow that’s wrong of him?
@younghoss, both of those quotes were from cobrat. I don’t remember on which page I found the “looting” comment. However, early in the thread, there was a misunderstanding that the house sitter took 70 or so beers from the OP. She later clarified that he apparently brought a lot of his own beers to the house after drinking all of the OP’s beer (I can’t remember how many the OP had-a case or so?). She found about 70 or so beers in the trash.
thank you for clearing it up, nrdsb4.
No you won’t find bottles/cans in the trash in Germany. My mom even rinses off plastic yogurt containers/lids and they have a compost bin, recycling in Germany is mandatory. At least where my parents live
