Awkward Timing of Class

So for my schedule next year, I have the option of adding in an additional class. Normally, I would go for it immediately, but I know a lot of people don’t take an extra class during that time slot because it’s an awkward time to have class and instead take a free block. Also, the class I would be taking would water down my weighted GPA because it’s not honors.

Should I take the class?

Thanks.

I would recommend not to. I did the same thing second semester of freshman year and my class rank dropped significally from what it was after first semester. I loved the class but I don’t think my rank really demonstrates how well I’m doing in comparison to my peers.

Don’t take it. My WGPA/rank has suffered too much from taking band, and I didn’t enjoy it much either.

Do not take it. Unless it’s significantly more impressive to colleges to the point that it’s worth a guaranteed drop in weighted GPA AND class rank AND the additional loss of free time and MORE stress, it’s not a good choice.
As you can see, barely any classes provide any satisfactory way of balancing those setbacks, so I would assume that it’s better to NOT take the class.

I would definitely not take it since it sounds like you wouldn’t be getting anything worthwhile from it.

Oh… It looks like the general consensus is no. I initially was favoring taking the class since its a business class and I like business, but I guess the drop in weighted GPA is too bad? How important is Weighted GPA and class rank (does it really constitute not taking a non-honors class)?

Colleges don’t care about weighted GPA in itself because all high schools weight grades differently (or not at all). It could have an effect on your class rank, but if class rank is calculated in a way that penalizes you for taking a class rather than a study hall, the system is messed up and colleges should appreciate that.
All in all I don’t think it matters either way.
