What are my chances at Columbia/Penn, and which one should I apply ED to? Also, should I look into any other schools? I await your responses.

Look, with only a top 10% rank, you will have a terrible time at the Ivies you have listed here (except maybe Cornell). Instead, because of the upward trend in your grades, you should be applying to Princeton and Stanford (Ivy-equivalent), where they throw out the freshman year (I figure you are about top 3% without the freshman grades).

You will get a score of 483 out of a possible 500 using this methodology. (I think it takes about 480 to get into UC Berkeley and 475 to get into UCLA from out-of-state, but I can’t say for sure). With your busy ECs and sport background, I’m guessing they will give you a lot of credit for leadership and let you in.

calcruzer you have given me a lot to think about - thank you, even though I feel that Princeton and Stanford are pretty big reaches. Does anyone know which other schools throw out freshman year?

Columbia (1st choice) - I think you have a good chance
UPenn - reach
Cornell - match
Johns Hopkins - match/ low reach
Northwestern - match
UCLA - I thought UCs were strict about letting OOS applicants in? dunno
Michigan - low reach/ match
NYU (Safety?)- match

I didn’t know enough about some of the other ones to chance you for them ^^;

Columbia (1st choice) - Small Reach, but you can prolly do it
UPenn - maybe a bit more of a reach, but still possible
Cornell - match
Johns Hopkins - match
Georgetown - low reach
Northwestern - def match
UCLA - match
Emory - don’t know much about the school
Michigan - match

If you go Columbia Fu Foundation… I suggest Early Decision… the acceptance rate for ED to Fu is like 40%… granted the competition is a bit more fierce, but you shown demonstrated interest, and since your stats and chances are as good as anyone’s… 40% doesn’t sound too bad, does it now?

sunshineyday: While his wording was ambiguous, I think he’s not nearly stupid enough to not know that Princeton is an Ivy. I think his sentence actually meant “…Princeton, or Stanford (an Ivy-equivalent).”
