BA in History, now an Accounting Certificate?

I have just received a BA in History from a UC this past June. I earned a high GPA, and the classes I took opened my mind and changed the way I see the world.

The problem is, I have no job skills. I don’t want to go into teaching, the only thing my history degree really qualifies me for. Now I am considering enrolling in an accounting certificate program at my local community college to gain skills which will enable me to at least get a start in the accounting field.

Is this is a sound plan? Has anyone here done something similar with successful results?

Unless you already have connections, I would invest in a MS in accounting. An important thing is recruitment. You need to go to a place where a lot of firms will be recruiting. I would take a couple of intro accounting classes at a local CC, take the GMAT, and apply. Since you have a high GPA, you should be able to get into a good program.
