BA in Liberal Arts

Hey I’m an incoming GW freshman, and i just want a little bit of info on the BA in liberal arts major. The requirements for this major seem to be almost the same as the general curriculum requirements for the college of arts and sciences, except a bit more extensive. Can the same classes be used to satisfy both requirements? Also, on top of these requirements (which again i assume can be satisfied by just the GCR’s + a few extra classes) do u on top of this take 36 credits of “approved 100-level liberal arts courses?” What kinds of classes would be approved and is a liberal arts course basically anything offered at the CCAS?

This major seems interesting, because from my current understanding, most of the classes you take will be classes of your choice and classes you are interested in, right? I was accepted to the 7-year BA/MD program, so it seems like it would be a good idea for me to get a broad liberal education before taking almost only science classes in med school. If anyone could let me know if my understanding of the major is sound and/or give me additional info/advice, that would be great :)

You are already bright. congrats!
Anyway, the first week of classes you’ll meet your advisor, and will get a better idea on what courses to take. Classes are not easy at GWU, so don’t overwhelm yourself, it will divert your goal.

thanks for the help. any other advice?

Personally I don’t know anyone majoring in the “liberal arts” in general. I think it might be a better idea to take a wide variety of classes your freshman year and find something you like and major in it (while making sure to get all of your pre-requisites for med school). During your freshman year, make sure to talk with not only with the adviser assigned to you but also the CCAS Pre-Med Advisor, other pre-med students (there is a pre-med professional fraternity, which would be a great way to meet others), and if you can, current med students or doctors. They will help you get a better idea of what would be best to focus on during undergrad.
