I was accepted to both with about the same financial aid, so cost isn’t an issue here. However, I know the schools are drastically different so I’m having trouble deciding between the two.
Why I’m holding back from BU:
super large school, in the city, so I’m afraid I won’t see familiar faces often and I won’t be able to make the close friends I want
no campus, I haven’t visited but I’ve heard the campus is really nonexistent and there is no campus feel
grade deflation
Why I’m holding back from Babson:
super small school, about 700 people in the freshman class
not as renowned as BU, I want to move back to the west coast after college and I’m worried employers there won’t know about Babson and it will affect my ability to find a job
What are your thoughts on the two schools? Regarding EVERYTHING like academics, social life, campus, etc…
They are both well respected for business and they are very different. Two reasonable people could make different decisions. If possible visit both during accepted students day and hopefully one will stand out as being the better fit for you.
I will point out another significant difference which is that Babson is a business oriented college. IMO if you choose Babson you should be pretty comfortable in thinking that business is the path you want to take.
I visited both schools last year and regret not paying enough attention to the BU campus.I did, however like the Babson campus. I won’t be able to visit the schools this year.
Babson, particularly for its entrepreneurial emphasis is well-known in the business world. If you are interesed in that focus, then Babson is where you should go. If you are interested in other aspects of business, or suspect that you might change direction and want to study something other than business, then BU is likely to be the better choice.
Babson has a campus in San Francisco and a semester in San Francisco program. It is known by companies in the valley for its strong entrepreneurship program (if that is the part of California you want to return to).
ok BU is a good school overall and def better known around the world. But if you are interested in entrepreneurship/business Babson may be a better fit. I havent visited Babson campus but BU isnt bad actually - its near the river and there is def some campus feel - also great to be in a city. BU business school isnt top and doesnt have the best career center.
You would make friends at BU and the dorms are good sized and your friend group would probably develop from your dorm and others you have classes with. There is a lot do in Boston and at BU. Both BU and Babson are excellent business schools. Agree with others if that you want a more standard business degree, then BU would be a great choice. If you are more entrepreneurial, then Babson is a better choice. If you can make a trip east before you make your decision, take that opportunity.
Email each school and ask precisely what sort of placement they have on the west coast, industry contacts for internships, current west coast students/alumni you could chat with…
Babson has a nice consortium with Olin if you’re interested in tech ventures. It’s entirely business focused.
BU indeed as no campus it’s European-style in the city. They have a greater variety of majors.
