Babson or BU for undergrad business

I got accepted into Babson and Boston University College of General Studies. I am planning on doing Finance. I committed to Babson, but I feel I made the wrong choice. My thought process was that BU CGS was too restricting on what classes I could take, and I would be rushing to fulfill my major, and I won’t be able to take any classes in any other interests I have. I also do not think I would enjoy the CGS classes, as I have hated similar classes that I have taken in high school. The January start I also don’t like. I also thought that at Babson, I would have strong relations with my professors and their services an opportunities would be easier to access and get help from because it is a small school. But since finance is a field where prestige matters so much, I feel like I made the wrong choice. What are your thoughts? What are job opportunities like after college, and how highly regarded is Babson really in the finance world?

Seems to me you should go to Babson.

You have every opportunity to have strong relations with profs at both schools - and to involve yourself in service opportunities at both but that’s up to you - but you don’t want the January start, don’t want the CGS and narrow focus, and you got into a very well known business school.

When you say finance - what type of finance?

Prestige matters in some areas of finance - not all - but both are great names.

Have you looked at career outcome reports?

In the end, you have to be somewhere for four years, day after day. You clearly prefer Babson and there’d be no reason not to attend - and If you mean IB, neither is a target but both could place.

Thanks

PS - look at Babson - the far majority are finance and in financial services and are placing at a who’s who of banks (doesn’t mean they are IB roles though - you can ask).

BU also shows great outcomes.

No bad choice - but there may be a bad choice for you as you have to be somewhere four years, day after day after day.

Good luck.

Within BU’s immediate region, it’s pretty easy to name schools with stronger reputations for finance, namely MIT and BC.

In contrast, Babson has a distinctive national reputation for the undergraduate study of business.

This.

And this.

Sounds like Babson is your better choice based on what you have written here.

It matters for a small number of schools. BU is a solid institution but it isn’t buying you a meaningful difference in prestige.

Babson is well known & respected. In your situation, there are too many negatives with BU. Babson is the wiser choice based on your interests.

Babson is nationally known and will prepare you better than CGS+2 years in your major. You made the right choice.
