<p>I recently posted about the fact that I had retired, but when people responded I came to realize that I REALLY would like to get back into nursing.</p>
<p>I have a license that I’ve kept up to date in a neighboring state which I could commute to a few times a week. I am looking for per diem work.</p>
<p>Obviously after 20 years not doing nursing my skills are rusty…I am wondering if anyone has suggestions of nursing positions that were less skill intensive and would accept a nurse wanting to get back in after all these years. </p>

<p>This is a very tough spot. A lot of softer jobs that nurses get into after years of work , actually require a vast amount of clinical experience, such as case managers, clinical instructors, insurance triage/call centers, flow coordinators, documentation specialist. Finding refresher classes for nurses returning to work may be helpful. Possible areas to look at are Wound Centers, infusion centers, or any area where the skills required are very limited and they may be wiling to train like IV therapy.
Another area that may be willing to hire you would be a long term care facility. They seem to be more willing to hire unexperienced nurses and new grads.Work there for a little while and gain some basic nursing experience and Ease your way back into the profession… Good luck!</p>
<p>I was going to say long term care/skilled therapy as a documentation/MDS nurse. Sounds perfect.</p>
<p>Though they are cutting the budget for these, how about working as a school nurse? Even get on a substitute list.</p>
